ICYMI: Following Ciscomani’s Efforts, Town of Duncan to Receive $274,000 for Flood Mitigation

April 8, 2024

GREENLEE COUNTY, AZ – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, recently secured $274,000 for flood mitigation in the town of Duncan in the FY24 appropriations package.

“These dollars represent a crucial investment in our agricultural and rural communities,” said Ciscomani. “Throughout last year’s appropriations process, I relayed the importance of bringing federal dollars back to Greenlee County and Arizona’s rural communities.”

Ciscomani meets with Greenlee County Board of Supervisors in Washington, D.C. in February.

This funding will be used for operations to place 20 culverts in order to immediately mitigate ongoing flood issues in the Hunter Estates and help with future paving of 21,100 linear feet of surface street for transportation and connectivity. The town of Duncan is mostly composed of undeveloped dirt roads, with the Hunter Estates having almost no paved areas whatsoever. This results in substantial and reoccurring maintenance when it rains.

“Congressman Ciscomani has really been a big help to the Town of Duncan,” said Duncan Town Manager Terry Hinton. “We are very small and out of the way, so it is easy to forget about us. The Congressman took an interest in our problems and helped us get some much-needed funding. He has been a strong advocate for his district, and we really appreciate his help.”

In total, Ciscomani secured $26 million for 13 projects in every county of Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. He is the only member of the Arizona delegation to sit on the House Appropriations Committee.
