Congressman Ciscomani Holds Inaugural Meeting of Citizens Advisory Council

January 22, 2023

Diverse Group of Community Leaders Across the District Provide Key Insight on Needs of Arizona’s 6th Congressional District

Congressman Juan Ciscomani's Citizen Advisory Council met for the first time Thursday to discuss their mission over the next two years: delivering results for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.

The 40-member council - comprised of Republicans, Democrats and Independents from the district’s five counties - was established by the congressman following his swearing in on January 7.

“I’m incredibly grateful for all the members of the Advisory Council for volunteering to support us on this journey,” Congressman Ciscomani told the group at the beginning of their two-hour discussion. “I know that I cannot do this alone so everyone on the council is going to play a big role in helping us deliver results. We set forward ambitious priorities for our district, and I will be leaning on the advice and guidance of my council to achieve these goals.”

Issues discussed at the council's inaugural meeting, held at the offices of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council in Tucson, included the economy, public safety, education, water, workforce development, and infrastructure.

"This meeting is just the beginning," Congressman Ciscomani said. "We have a lot of work to do and this amazingly diverse group of men and women will help us deliver the results this district wants."

The council meeting was among the events Congressman Ciscomani held during the first district work week of the 118th Congress.

On Wednesday morning, he was in Cochise County to speak with members of the Southeast Arizona Economic Development Group in Benson. Later that same day - and 120 miles to the north - he was in Pinal County to speak with Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland and other community leaders about plans to expand Interstate 10. And Friday, he was back in Cochise county to meet with the garrison commander of Fort Huachuca, a pillar of both the region’s economy and our country's military readiness.

And he even found time to read to his daughter’s elementary school class.

With the advisory council, Congressman Ciscomani spoke about the importance to the district of his appointment to the influential House Appropriations Committee. He also announced that he had just been named to the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

"This is another big win for the district," he said. "The Veterans’ Affairs Committee is responsible for serving America’s veterans and ensuring they have access to the benefits and services they have earned from their military service. Our veterans are one of the reasons why our community is so great. I look forward to working with my colleagues to be a voice for veterans across the country.”
