Ciscomani Introduces Effort to Secure Federal Lands Across the Border and Address Environmental Degradation

September 19, 2024

WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) introduced legislation to strengthen public safety of federal lands, protect communities, and address hazardous trash piles along the southern border.

Specifically, Ciscomani’s legislation, the Federal Lands Amplified Security for the Homeland (FLASH) Act (H.R. 9678) would enhance border security through the construction of navigable roads, allow states to place temporary barriers on federal lands, direct federal managers to develop a plan to reduce hazardous trash piles, and prohibit taxpayer dollars from being used to house inadmissible migrants on federal lands.

Ciscomani was joined by Reps. Westerman, Green, Tiffany, Amodei, Bacon, Barr, Bilirakis, Carter, Chavez-DeRemer, Crenshaw, Edwards, Fleishmann, Fong, Fulcher, Gosar, Graves, Grothman, Guest, Hill, Malliotakis, Newhouse, Reschenthaler, Rouzer, Stauber, Steil, Williams, and Wittman in introducing this effort.

“For the last three and a half years, border districts, like mine, have suffered the devastating consequences stemming from the crisis at our southern border,” said Ciscomani. “My legislation is a commonsense solution that will enhance Border Patrol’s ability to do their job, empower states to secure their border, safeguard taxpayer dollars, and protect the environment by addressing the growing trash piles along the southern border.”

"America’s southern border has been ravaged by the effects of Border Czar Kamala Harris's failed policies,” said House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman. “Today, we're pushing back against this failing administration and introducing legislation to enhance border security, reduce the trash pile forming along the border and ensure not a single tax dollar is spent housing migrants on federal lands."
