Following Ciscomani’s Urging, VA Adds Outstation in Sierra Vista
WASHINGTON – Following pressure from U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is opening of a Vet Center Outstation in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
The announcement of the new location comes after the Vet Center Community Access Point in Cochise County closed in May. In July, Congressman Ciscomani wrote a letter to the VA demanding answers on the closure and pressing the agency for a timeline for the opening of a new location. The shuttering of the access point left the nearest Vet Center more than 75 miles away, creating an immense burden for the 18,000 veterans that call Cochise County home.
“I am pleased to see the VA take concrete steps to open a new location in Cochise County,” said Congressman Ciscomani, a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “Our veterans already face onerous red tape when receiving the benefits they deserve, and we must do all we can to eliminate those burdens. Whether it’s reducing wait times, finding more convenient locations, or expanding access to care, I will always strive to find ways to better serve our veterans.”
“The closure of the Vet Center in May left veterans in Cochise County without convenient, accessible care,” said Army veteran Jane Strain. “Thanks to the advocacy of Congressman Ciscomani, the VA recognized the need for a location in Sierra Vista. As a result, our veteran community will once again be able to receive the care they need in an expedient and localized manner.”
The Arizona congressman represents over 70,000 veterans across his district. During his freshman year in Congress, he introduced five bipartisan bills focused on veterans’ benefits. You can find more about his legislation HERE.
