Representative Ciscomani Highlights $1 Million for Rural Cochise County Law Enforcement

Sierra Vista, AZ - Representative Juan Ciscomani today visited the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office to highlight $1 million in federal funding preliminarily secured to strengthen the department’s communications capabilities and provide local law enforcement with the tools they need to keep Cochise County communities safe.

​The funding would support the purchase of four mobile communications trailers equipped to provide 5G data and P25-compliant radio coverage for Cochise County Sheriff’s Department operations.

Cochise County is home to nearly 126,000 residents, and reliable communication can be challenging for local law enforcement due to the county spanning over 6,000 square miles. These mobile trailers can be moved to wherever they are needed, helping deputies stay connected without the cost of building permanent communications infrastructure. The investment is also expected to save the department approximately $140,000 in annual communications costs.

This targeted investment will improve communications for drone operations, search-and-rescue command and control, and high-definition video surveillance, helping our officers better serve the people of Cochise County. Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels praised Representative Ciscomani’s leadership and partnership in working to secure the $1 million in funding.

We saw the need to improve our communications systems, and when we brought that need to Congressman Ciscomani, he didn’t hesitate to make it a priority. We appreciate his efforts to make this investment a reality for our local law enforcement and the people we serve," said Sheriff Mark Dannels.

Prior to his visit to the department, Representative Ciscomani also watched an ATF K-9 demonstration in recognition of National Dog Day which highlighted the vital work K-9 teams in Arizona do to assist federal and local law enforcement and help keep communities safe.

As the only member of Arizona’s congressional delegation serving on the House Appropriations Committee, Representative Ciscomani has made securing federal investments for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District a priority. The $1 million for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department is part of $42.7 million preliminarily secured for 20 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests across the district.

This builds on the $60 million Representative Ciscomani secured for 28 CPFs between Fiscal Years 2024 and 2026, bringing critical federal investments back to communities across Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.
