Ciscomani Named to Key Foreign Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee
WASHINGTON – Following the conclusion of the FY2024 appropriations process, U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) was recently appointed to the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Agencies (SFOPS) Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee.
This subcommittee plays a key role in crafting Congress’ budget for the federal government’s top national security and foreign affairs agencies, including the Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Department of Treasury’s International Financial Institutions. Ciscomani will be participating in his first hearing as a subcommittee member this morning. The livestream of today’s hearing will be available here.
“With growing threats from adversaries around the world, American strength and diplomacy on the global stage is more important than ever,” said Ciscomani. “Our federal government and the relevant agencies must be laser-focused on protecting our national security at home and abroad, supporting our partners and allies, and eliminating threats to the homeland. This position will allow me to ensure those priorities are met while reducing bloated government spending and increasing congressional oversight into the Biden administration. This role has deep roots with southern Arizona’s previous congressional representation, with my friend and mentor, Jim Kolbe, having previously served as Chairman on the subcommittee, and I am honored to follow in his footsteps. I look forward to serving on this subcommittee with these goals and those of Arizona’s Sixth District top of mind.”
“It is an honor to have Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) to be a member of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee on Appropriations,” said Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-26). “Rep. Ciscomani has shown himself to be an effective leader and I look forward to working with him to end out-of-control spending and uphold government accountability while ensuring the United States continue to uphold American values to promote freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.”
Ciscomani is the only member of the Arizona delegation on the House Appropriations Committee. You can find Ciscomani’s full committee and subcommittee assignments as well as caucus memberships here.
