Ciscomani Highlights $6.3 Million in Federal Investments for Graham County
'From improving essential roads and modernizing the courthouse to expanding access to healthcare and supporting teacher housing, these projects address real needs identified by local leaders.'
Tucson, AZ - Representative Juan Ciscomani toured four Community Project Funding sites in Graham County, highlighting the $6.3 million in preliminary federal funding he has secured to support infrastructure, healthcare, roads, and teacher housing across Thatcher, Safford, and the greater Graham County area.
"These $6.3 million in preliminary investments across four projects will deliver lasting improvements for communities across Graham County," said Representative Ciscomani. "From improving essential roads and modernizing the courthouse to expanding access to healthcare and supporting teacher housing, these projects address real needs identified by local leaders. As Arizona’s sole appropriator, I am committed to bringing federal resources home, moving these projects forward, and delivering results that matter for Graham County families."
The funding was awarded through the highly competitive Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations process. Graham County’s four projects stood out among more than 70 applications submitted to Ciscomani’s office and will support key priorities across the community:
- $3 million will support the reconstruction and widening of 1st Avenue Road in Thatcher, improving a critical local roadway and making travel safer and more efficient for residents, businesses, and the surrounding community.
- $2 million will support modernization and improvements to the Graham County Courthouse in Safford, helping upgrade a critical public facility and ensure it can continue meeting the needs of Graham County residents.
- $650,000 will help Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center purchase a new mammography unit, bringing advanced breast cancer screening and diagnostic services closer to home and reducing the need for local patients to travel outside the community for care.
- $650,000 will support teacher housing at Fort Thomas Unified School District, helping provide more affordable housing options for educators and strengthening the district’s ability to recruit and retain teachers in the community.
Thatcher Mayor Jenny Howard praised Ciscomani’s advocacy and commitment to the community.
"He gets rural," said Thatcher Mayor Jenny Howard. "He gets the state, he gets this district, but he gets rural; he knows we struggle."
Howard continued:
"The Town of Thatcher is incredibly grateful for Representative Ciscomani’s leadership and advocacy as he works to secure this $3 million investment for our community. We were proud to host him yesterday and show him firsthand why this project is so important to Thatcher and the surrounding region. This investment would be a game changer for our community and will truly have a lasting impact. We appreciate Representative Ciscomani’s commitment to seeing this project through and bringing this critical investment home to Southern Arizona. This is the kind of investment that will make a real difference for our community for years to come."
These investments build on more than $60 million in Community Project Funding Ciscomani has delivered for Arizona in Fiscal Years 2024 and 2026, including $5.5 million for Graham County.
Previous Graham County projects include:
- $2 million for a new Pima Fire Station
- $1.3 million for the Graham County Gila River Linear Park
- $1.2 million for new waterlines at the Graham County Fairgrounds
- $1 million for a new road to Pima High School
This $6.3 million investment for Graham County is a testament to Representative Ciscomani’s commitment to delivering for rural Arizona. This year, he has preliminarily secured funding for 20 projects totaling $42.7 million, bringing critical resources back home to Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District. As Arizona’s sole member of the House Appropriations Committee, Ciscomani’s efforts ensure stronger communities, better infrastructure, and a brighter future for families across the region.
