Ciscomani Highlights $1.7 Million Investment for Flood Mitigation and Pedestrian Safety

Duncan, AZ - U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani today joined Duncan Mayor Alex Blake and other town leadership to discuss $1.7 million in preliminarily secured funding for critical flood mitigation and pedestrian safety improvements along a highly-traveled roadway.
The funding would address severe recurring flooding and pedestrian safety hazards along the town’s East Avenue; a critical local roadway located immediately south of U.S. Highway 70. Flooding frequently reaches depths of three feet or more, which prevents pedestrian access, limits vehicular travel, damages adjacent properties, and causes roadway deterioration.
"I am proud to fight for $1.7 million in funding to address the issues of serious flooding and pedestrian safety in the Town of Duncan. The residents of Duncan have long experienced the harmful effects of frequent flooding along the town’s East Avenue, which has damaged properties and infrastructure, while also limiting pedestrian and vehicular access," said Rep. Ciscomani. "My top priority in Congress is to deliver real results to Arizona’s 6th District, ensuring our communities have the federal resources they need to thrive. I am grateful to have met with Mayor Blake to hear firsthand how these improvements will benefit this resilient town and I look forward to this funding being signed into law to see the significant impact it will have on Duncan residents and neighboring communities."
The proposed East Avenue flood mitigation and pedestrian safety improvements will reconstruct approximately 2,400 linear feet of East Avenue, while also installing critical stormwater and pedestrian infrastructure. These improvements will significantly reduce flooding, improve pedestrian safety, and ensure Duncan residents, businesses, and emergency services have reliable access during storm events.

East Avenue is a vital roadway that is in desperate need of flood mitigation, drainage infrastructure, and surface improvements to ensure the safety of home owners, vehicles and pedestrians," said Mayor Blake. As the only member of the Arizona delegation serving on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Ciscomani has worked to bring back critical funding to Arizona’s 6th District. Duncan’s East Avenue flood mitigation and pedestrian safety improvements is among a total of $42.7 million preliminarily secured for 20 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests across the district, building on the $60 million Rep. Ciscomani secured for 28 projects between 2024 and 2026.
